I've just googled this and I think it is the caterpillar of the Green Brindled Crescent Moth.

Off to have a peek Toto iv never seen a Moth called that ? :)

Thanks for the info, Toto - I googled but couldn't find a match! Checked on him when I watered my tomato plants about 9.30 and he is still munching on the same leaf!

I googled "Britsh Caterpillars" Gee. It's also in one of my books.

Thanks, Toto, found it now! A bit slow on the uptake after a weekend of excitement (my twin daughters birthday, double the celebrations!) The little caterpillar has now moved on to another leaf. Maybe I will even see him emerge as a moth!

The moth is quite a pretty one. Parts of it's wing are an irridescent green.

I like it - I would let it eat away too, maybe that's why most of my plants are holey.

Update - caterpillar has gone; I wonder if he has been eaten :(
