I can't help but agree with Milky even if it does erk me somewhat. Its a great shot of an increasingly rare bird. I've only seen one of these in years.

I know the ones you mean Bonkers but the only thrushes anywhere around here are blackbirds and I feed them with apples and dried mealworms.

Thrush family which nested in my garden last year, has been back in recent weeks and is nesting somewhere locally. Thrush collecting worms was the lovely sight which I saw in my back garden first thing this morning. Last year was the first time in seven years I'd seen thrushes in my neighbourhood, so maybe on the increase in some areas ?

Thanks Amy .. yes TT think many birds making up for the poor summers we ve had recently and trying to raise extra broods .think the use of slug pellets is diminishing and I m sure not alone in happily tolerating holes in my hostas to see these more frequently .

I ve seen many more swallows and skylarks interesting not much sign during those wet summers so perhaps they know something for this summer ?

Beautiful bird - last one I saw was at when it was snowing here. I'll look out the red pellets next time I go to Wilkingsons.

Bonkers. After my comment about not seeing a Song Thrush for years. At work today I saw one with a worm. Can't believe the coincidence.

Bought some of the red pellets yesterday and you are right, everything loves them. I caught Chloe eating some I had put out especially for Hoppity! Think I will have to restrict them to the bird table :)

We mix them with seed Gee otherwise they go in seconds ..Chloe would soon hoover them up dont think they d be around long enough for rats to get leftovers ..lol

What a beauty. Our local Wilko's seem to be a bit low stocked at the mo. I need to get some suet pellets. Ray, what does a young thrush look like - cant see a pic in the BTO book.

Thrushes tend to keep their young in the nest longer Dawn for some reason ..
Our Mistle Thrushes just bringing their young down now and look similar to adults apart from paler heads.Wonder if it to do with food competition as younger birds would stand no chance against blackbirds ?

I'll look forward to seeing the picture Ray. Just that we've seen a bird feeding on the bird table - looks like a young blackbird but quite big and has no tail, but a bit speckled - maybe it is a baby blackbird then. The thrushes are clever arent they. I'll be leaving my dropped apples around for them in the autumn.

~I don't use slug pellets and throw my snails on the flat garage roof for whatever finds them.
However I never have a thrush in the garden although I have seen them fairly close by~wonder if it's because of our resident blackbirds?

They fledge without tails Dawn and spend about a week in undergrowth .. they can fly very short distances in emergency till tail feathers grow .

Yes speckled both sexes so cant tell male and female although tail feathers dark these are brown and not till following year that beaks change and chest feathers turn black.

Yes Arlene - Song thrushes more intimidated as smaller .. Mistle Thrushes bigger than blackbirds and will stand their ground .

So many here Dawn nothing like the size of your garden but just keep coming .. lost count of the babies must be 30 + and still having broods . I blame Jane and those sultanas ..

Sadly only Pear & Cooking Apple Tree has Fruit this Year ! The Old Eatting Apple Tree didnt show any Blossom @ all :(

Funny you should say that but we have three ancient apple trees and one has produced no blossom at all too.The others have not shown much...yet last year went mad ! Thats nature for you !
