Cactus species unknown

This Cactus is commonly grown around here...I can't remember
the name though. Photo taken June 22, 2009.

Cholla cactus do not grow this large...they are native to our area and usually stay below 3 feet / 1 meter tall. This cactus grows much taller to more than 10 feet / 3.5 meters. I'll remember the name soon...then I'll post it.
At the end of the branches are the flower which will turn into fruit.
A hedge of these...and for sure the trespassers would be feeling some spines. lol

cholla? are the bulbous projections on the end of the branches fruit? could it be some kind of prickly pear? must be very colourful in full blossom...Imagine a hedge of those cacti....sure wouldn't have any trespassers...lol.
