I love these Vincent. I just can't get them to grow in my garden. Probably a bit too hot and dry in the summer.(Clay soil that goes like a rock). But I haven't had much luck growing them from seed either!

These are in Rowallane, in Co. Down, N. Ireland, Paul. I can't grow them here, either, - heavy clay. I grew some from seed many years ago and potted 40 of them into peat soil. For 'safe keeping', I put them onto a bed of a friend's plant nursery and they grew like cabbages.
Just at the time for flowering to start, I went to have a look at them and ..... they were all dead as door nails. Explanation: one of the staff had put on a granular herbicide ( can't remember what it was) on all the beds of mostly shrubs and had wiped out my precious, cossetted 'Poppies'.
I never had the heart to try them again.
(I still have not forgiven him, whoever he is and wherever he is!!!!)
