Help please!

Can anyone please identify this plant. An elderly neighbour has it in a pot in her garden. She has no idea what it is but wants to enter it into the Over 60's flower show but can't unless she knows what it is! It is a beauty. I have also posted a close-up of the flowers. I hope someone can help.

Wow, that was quick! Thanks, Hywel, Joan will be very pleased. I'll pop up the road now and let her know :)

Oooh, I thought Gaura, before I saw Hywel's answer....
.... so I'm pleased I got it right. Lol.
I hope your neighbour does well at the show.
Please let us know on this thread how she gets on...:o)

I will, TT, but goodness knows how she plans to get it there - it's in a large pot and she's not too nimble footed at the best of times. I will have to make discreet enquiries as she is a very independent lady, bless her :)

Sounds like she needs a set of wheels under her garden exhibit :o)

Or someone's else's arms and legs, TT! I will see if she needs help with transporting it - it might fit on my trike :)

Oh, a pic of that would be good :o)
She might win a huge trophy, and then that will also need to fit on the trike for the return trip. Lol.

After all that, Joan has decided not to take the plant - she is doing some baking instead!! As soon as I mentioned the name she remembered it (!). Apparently it used to be a quite large plant in her garden and she cut it back and thought she had killed it. She stuck a little piece in the pot and promptly forgot all about it until it sprouted earlier this year, bless her. She has told me to take cuttings whenever I want. I presume it will be better to do this when it has finished flowering?
