Baby has a long tail, so just about to launch off on his own. Freakies wife is snuggled up on the nest, while dad feeds his kids in all sorts of places ,and freaks out if a magpie comes by. One of our baby blackbirds nearly got taken by a sparrow hawk. Awful kerfuffle. Baby seen later with a curly white feather stuck near his tail. Alive and well.

Hi, Jacque, I think Dorjac is just talking generally about blackbird habits! But I do hope she is right and Hoppity is about somewhere. My neighbour hasn't seen her either so I am not too optimistic myself. There was a blackbird Mum in the front garden this morning with a youngster but she definitely had two legs. Fingers still crossed though :)

I certainly hope Hoppity is just nesting again,as our pair did, in a new nest next door. Mrs Blackbird vanished for some time until the next lot fledged. I can;t say it was as long as 2 weeks, but I hope Hoppity is OK. My book says the male continues to feed the first brood, feeds the female too, while she broods the next lot. Very good husbands and dads are blackbirds.
