This is the actual tree discovered on the Earl of Camperdown's estate in 1835 by his head gardener. Every such elm in the world has its roots here (doesn't grow from seed).

Hi, Eileen!
Well, I feel a whole lot better now, having just added this pic to those blogs from Feb '08 and August '08, lol! This is also known as an "Umbrella Elm", because of its "weeping" habit. To me, it is like a cross between a contorted hazel and a Kilmarnock willow. In winter, you can see the wonderfully twisted branches, but the daylight has never seemed to be right for pics. I'll keep trying, as it's one of my fave trees.

Oh dear, when I first saw this photo I thought it was someone/something on army manouvres in camouflage! I can just imagine it moving when no one is looking :) Great photo, David.

I have been looking for, and trying to get a decent pic of, this very tree for well over a year. I can now add it into 2 blogs I wrote in the past, so I now feel that these are finally completed.
