My grandfather would have loved this ...a forestry worker where everything done by hand .Then again would probably have seen it as putting him out of a job !

Lol, Bb! You've just reminded me of my wife's great uncle, who died 3 years ago, aged 98. He loved when we took him out for the day to places like this, but would "grump" all the way home afterwards. "Hmmph, we had tae dae all that oorselves, by hand", "Hmmph, we didnae hae motors like this tae get aroond". It always made me laugh, and I always resisted the tempation to stop the car and ask "Well, would you prefer to get out and WALK home?" Once we got him home, he would always say Thanks for the "braw day oot, here's something towards the petrol" and give me a pound coin - LOL!

Aww...bless him. My grandfather had a sawmill (his name was Thom Sawyer)...and it was run by an old steam wheezer...It was a ruin by the time I came along...but I used to go up the hill to the sugar bush where it stood and marvel at the rusting hulk, the huge belts and pulleys and the saw blade that seemed gigantic to a little girl. It was the cutting edge technology of the day~! no pun intended. The sawdust still sat in piles from sawing and planing the huge white pine that grew on the highland, in the scarce soil that clothed the red granite. I'm sure the area reminded the Scots settlers of home. Some of your pictures remind me of home.

Bless you, Lori :-))) What a great name your Grandfather had. Yes, guess that, for some of the Scots emigrants, their new home would not have been too different. What tickles my kids about this engine is that it was manufactured by a conpany named Marshall, and that is our surname (must investigate further to see if related way back). :-)))
