Hi Ian.... Try this... go to my out box and click on the photo called Poppy 10 June, where I've put the comment Pretty Poppy. This takes you to Four Seasons photo from 12 June 08. Looks similar to your poppy. Do you agree ?

Thanks TT, I do agree, but it does LOOK like a carnation (to the uninitiated)
Guess I've still got a lot of learning to do. Lol :~)))

Yes, when we just see only a flower head, without the stems or leaves, it can be confusing... some roses, carnations, poppies with an abundance of petals can look very similar...

I posted a better picture in the questions section, it shows the full plant. As I say I was less than properly attired for photography this morning (didn't half give the mother in law a surprise !!! :~)))

lol. :o)

It's really is a Poppy, in the photo you can just make out a flower bud that's curved over, Carnations have upright buds, besides which I doubt you will find a Carnation of that colour!

lovely photo nice to have unexpected colour in a garden makes you realise why you love it kev.

Have a look among pictures of gardens, you'll sure to find some there. I, for one, have posted several photos of Carnations growing on my balcony. You could also do a search on tags for Carnations.

Good idea B. concider it done

I've uploaded 6 photos of my Carnations so you could look in My Plants for them.
Glad to be of help.
Today I ended pulling out four or five of my tomato plants. I'd had a lot growing in the corner but some were getting far too spindly & would never produce fruit. I've left the strongest but don't anticipate many tomatoes on them.

Funny that B. I to pulled about half of my toms yesterday, They were far to close together and I was risking getting blight and ruining the lot :~((

Sorry the photo isn't very good, I saw this as I got up and went straight out and started snapping away, so I was still a bit shaky, It wasn't until Carol reminded me that I sleep 'as nature intended' that I realized how cold I was!!!!!!!!!!!!!
