Looking up into the tree - it's a snake skin!

A tree snake has shed its skin as it slithered through the branches of my sterculia quadrifida.

Thanks all - I think I'd much rather see just birds in the trees Neellan!

Thanks Pansypotter - yes this is a fascinating tree. I did a blog on this one - it's a native to our northern part of Oz and it's lovingly referred to as the Peanut Tree.

They sure do Morgana. This skin was left behind by a common tree snake which generally lives in above ground environments such as heavy foliage of trees and shrubs, exposed beams of verandahs and pergolas, sheds and garages.

I would rather you than me ugh ugh I asked as the markings on the tree branches looks simular to the pattern of a snake camoflarge.

That sure is scary!

Morgana - when the tree snake slips out of it's old skin, it then has a yellow belly and black top so it's not really camouflaged any more. The other name for the tree snake is the yellow-bellied black snake.

Heather - yes you're right it is a bit scary but the tree snakes are not venomous and if you give them a wide berth, they will just take off.
