birds and more birds 2

after puting out a total of 4 kg of lard for a flock of birds
i can only count about 20 at a time
over 4 days they have demolished the lot
went to the shop for more and they said they dont have any till tomorow
so this flock of birds (and it seems they are the same ones) have probably eaten at least 100 gramms each, a lot more than they weigh.
and run the local shop out of lard.
so here they are, party, party, party.

I was going to say that their eyes must be bigger than their bellies, but on looking at them their eyes are huge. Lucky birds who come to your garden pd.

they are called 'silver eyes' and yes they do look as if their eyes are bigger than their bellys.
they flock in the winter and pair off in spring.
they normally produce 2 broods each year
so next yer i may have to double the food heaps

With the ring of white feathers around their eyes they really do make them look bigger!
I did a search for them & found this interesting page on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silvereye

they have now consumed some 4 kg of food so guess they wont need any more for a while
occasionally a larger bird will drop in and take a couple of pecks and fly away and then there is a rush of tiny birds to get back into a feast
