Now that's really attractive, Dotty ... let's hope my recently purchased one thrives as well as yours ... :o)

Its lovely DD. How long have you had it planted in the garden, only mine is smaller than that and still in a pot. I am afraid to plant it out in case I lose it. Think I will put it in a larger pot for another year or two.

Hi Shirley and Cinders...this Acer will be 5 years old in November, it was a bout 1 ft tall when we bought it, the other two Acers have been much slower, the Areum is about 3 ft tall, but the Garnet is only 1ft!! all bought at the same time, we kept them in pots for ....I think, two years to get them established.

Thanks DD. Thats what I shall do.

What a fantastic backdrop the green fence is for the orange leaves!

Agree with Karen Dotty, it looks lovely there

It's a stunning colour! lovely.

Karen the picture does not do justice to the beautiful orange leaves, the fence does keep the worst of the wind off.......thanks Annella and Paul, I do love Acers.

Orange Dream is a wonderful acer and I am sure you will enjoy its beauty and shade in coming years. I am glad, this Acer is so popular in Britain (some members of GoY have ot, including me), as it is almost unknown here in Slovakia, where the winner is Acer palmatum Bloodgood ;-)

Katarina it certainly is a very popular one over here, but it does not keep it's orange colour through the summer....which is a shame.

This is such a gorgeous tree, I didn't know it doesn't stay orange over the summer, presumably it turns green after a while?

27 Apr, 2013

Louisa yes it does, it could be due to root stock? not really sure.

27 Apr, 2013

Louisa@foliage is orange in the spring, then turns fresh green and in the autumn it turns yelow. So far, I am glad with this palette.

Thanks Katarina, it sounds like a beautiful tree all through the year!:)

hope mine gets like this Angela, had mine two years this year in pot, so may plant out after this year, i just love the delicate leaves and colour :o))

Gorgeous - I have this too and Aureum and Garnet - SNAP!!
Mine's are all small and I hope it does as well as yours!

27 Apr, 2013

Oh it is a beauty Dd, and such a graceful shape.....I shall take heed of the advice you gave Cinders, maybe another year in it's pot, then I'll find a sheltered spot in the garden too.

Scottish, Aureum is about to open, I think this one is my favourite, Garnet is so slow, we should have bought a larger one really...Orange Dream has been pruned a couple of times, but it has just romped away this last 6 months.....
Janey they do better if you can plant them out, just as long as you give them what they need.
Katarina I would like to have it orange all year, still you cant have everything can you?
San once it gets it's feet down it will soon be away.

I have been thinking about planting my 'red wine' but a bit worried about the winds here. I need to find a spot where it is protected by other trees.

29 Apr, 2013

I've just put my A. Eddisbury (similar to Sango Kaku) back in the ground (recovered from what ever was killing it of last year) - it looks awful having lost it's two main stems.
I hope I've chosen a sheltered enough spot.
I don't want to put it back from where it came from, since I never did find out what caused it to turn black!

29 Apr, 2013

Hope it thrives now....lucky rescue I would say, you did well to save it! :)

29 Apr, 2013

K....Acers do not like cold winds, so some shelter is needed..Scottish I wonder what caused that to happen? there are a number of diseases that affect Acers, good luck this time, when they do well they are stunning...

30 Apr, 2013

I know, that's why I'm so cautious. I'm going to leave it where it is.

30 Apr, 2013

I dont blame you K....
