This shrub is native to California - I bet it never has to cope with icicles there!

BS - I hope so. I've had it for more than ten years now and it's growing against a south-facing wall. It came through -8C last winter and it hasn't been that cold here so far this time round.

Milky - I haven't checked but the roots were well mulched with straw in the autumn so that should help

It's going to be interesting to see which so called tender plants get through this winter Andrew. I fear we have a lot more cold weather to come.

Richard - I was surprised at how little I lost last winter when we recorded -8C one night. It's not been that cold here yet but it's a longer spell of continous cold (which might do more harm)
