Shirley T, some leaves do drop, but I don't think you can underwater them, mine is very neglected and bakes in the hot direct sun, which may be why it flowers?
Those dropped leaves will readily root assuming they are not completely shrivelled

I have never seen the flowers of this plant before so thanks for putting your photo on. I had one which grew to be huge but it never flowered. I should have neglected it, I guess.

Beautiful ... I had no idea they flowered. Hywel kindly gifted me one which is growing well .Having said that, I found three of the 'leaves' had dropped off onto the grit topping. Under or over watered perhaps?
