Daphne odora 'Aureomarginata'

Daphne odora 'Aureomarginata' (Daphne odora 'Aureomarginata')

Not the greatest picture and just missed it flowering by a couple days.I have a specific potting mix I like to use for daphne but ran out so I'm going to try orchid mix.

This is my first Daphne odora and can't believe how big the leaves are compared to my other daphne varieties! It isn't cold hardy where I live so I'm hoping to keep it alive as a container plant for a few years so I can get several more plants from cuttings. I've heard that this daphne likes a little more shade and more of an alkaline soil too. Can't wait to see how it does but I'm a little bummed that I didn't get to see it in flower!

Interesting how slightly altering the amount of sun and the soil type can improve a plant so much :o)

Yeah it's crazy. I'm always really careful about soil structure especially with daphnes! I've been hearing that they do really well in soils with pH of 5.5 and then adding a few grams of lime so I'm going to try that too.
