My tropical hydrangea (which isn't a hydrangea) is flowering with the most blooms it's ever had. The flowers smell like strawberry ice cream or strawberry cake. This tree is native to Madagascar and blooms only during winter. Photo taken

It can become quite a large tree, though. :>))
This year, for some reason it hasn't bloomed. It's the first time it hasn't bloomed in January in the many years I've had it.

Strange....could it be drought?

Yes, the severe six year drought has caused so many problems with my plants. My Heliconias haven't bloomed in 2 years. I think they will this year, though. We may break the extreme historic drought this year. We are getting quite a bit of rain over the last 5 weeks. In Northern California their drought is officially over as of this week.

Oh...thank heavens for that Delonix...that was an awful drought you had there....It seemed to go on for ever!

Yes, it's the worst recorded drought in California. Hundreds of millions of trees are dying in California. :>((
I have lost so many plants to this extreme drought. We were on very horrible water restrictions. I'm so happy it's finally getting better! :>)) The last 5 or 6 year drought here in San Diego wasn't as bad because it didn't affect the whole state like the current one. Also, the winter temps were not so very hot like during the last 5 years (many days in 80's and even 90's during winter)
