Wait until my dragon fruit flowers, it has dozens of flowers. It'll be blooming soon, too.

Do these have a scent?

Yes, this species has a slight sweet scent.

Mine dont fruit... only flowers... huge... lots of them and very very sweet smelling... but the downside is they bloom at midnight and wilt by the first sign of dawn... i dont know how to show them off...!!!

Mine don't fruit either. Not sure why?

Yes, they do bloom at night. I took this photo around 11:00 p.m.

My dragon fruit flowered last night. They
have much larger flowers than the Epiphyllum. I hope to get some fruit from the flowers this year! I'll be posting the photos soon. :>)

okay heres the deal i dont know how will you understand this but lemme try; there are apparently two different varieties one is called "Bhramakamal" locally around here and this variety doesnt bloom at all... its not supposed to.. the one that grows in thailand, S'pore, Malaysia, Fiji.. etc.. thats a different species.. similar flowers but smaller and fruits. Now i dont excatly know which one is yours but somehoe going by the size of the bloom i assume it is the fruiting one.

There's actually many species of Epiphyllum and Hylocereus. Most bloom at night and do produce fruit, if pollinated. Sometimes certain species of Epiphyllum and Hylocereus do not have certain pollinating bugs in certain countries...this prevents them from producing fruit. Here in San Diego Hylocereus species (dragon fruit) must be hand-pollinated to produce fruit.

I think we should try that then... because my aunts garden has the fruiting variety and it grwos wild there.... she has to cut back from time to time to give space to others.. and it fruits profusely..!

I have pollinated my dragon fruit flowers in the past without any success. My dragon fruit produced one fruit about two years ago (without any pollination).

I think the flower is built in a way that it needs cross pollination with an added effort from either some sort of an insect or bird or i dont know what... because clearly the stamens are so so far away from the pistil which is so way out of the flower.
