Chameleon Plant Blooming

DiOhio

Chameleon Plant Blooming (Houttuynia cordata (Houttuynia))

Chameleon plant blooming June 5 in the garden. In sun this plant shows many pinks, yellows and greens but in shade it turns to all greens. Very beautiful, but invasive.

Chris this plant loves water too........so if you have a wet spot where you can't plant anything this one will work and fill the spot in quickly. Or place a pot of it in a watergarden. Don't plant this directly in a bog or it'll take over the whole bog. It also grows in regular soil.

I have this plant but havn't seen any flowers on mine. I thought it was called Houttuynia cordta. I wonder if you could suggest any shade flowers for me as you seem to live closest to me. I'm in North Carolina and my garden is all shade so would appreciate any info on good plants to grow in the shade and in the mountains. Thanks

It 'does' look like Houttuynia.
I've never heard of a Chameleon plant.

I love hostas for shade Valerie. I'll plant hostas with pulminaria, ferns, helleborus, primrose, tricyrtis, heuchera and there are dozens of woodsy wildflowers that look great too, like VA bluebells, trillium, spiderwort, hepatica, wood poppy, geranium and wild ginger just to name a few.
FLcrazy has a lot of really wonderful shade plants too, so maybe you could get more ideas from her (and she lives in NC too).
