I have two ligularia Siris Britt Marie Crawford and an unknown originally from my dads garden, growing quite near each other, I often wonder if they maybe cross pollinate as some turn out dark but not as dark as BMC , I picked the darkest seedling I could find , I would post a picture of BMC but she's a pretty sorry state with slug/snail damage leaves do look darker though.

Hi Kathy, you sent me seed years ago, posted a pic recently, of my ligularia, the leaves on mine are basically green, love them as do the snails. So I don't now what mine are.

The one from my dads was totally green Dawn , BMC is very dark with dark undersides to the leaves but I now have green with dark undersides too which makes me think they must cross pollinate ?

This one, which you sent me, Simbad, has purple undersides to the leaves, very pleased with it, even if it is a cross.

Looks like I have your Dad's then - which is nice. ?

I think it is nice that these 'heritage' ones (with family history) are kept going in various gardens, a tribute to them.

The contrast of the flower and leaf is great. I have three different Ligularia but not this one. Great plant.

The petals on the flower have extended so it is a bright splash of colour in the gloom, love it.

Great isnt it Siris, I agree.

They do seem to vary although the description says " Dark glossy black chocolate-maroon leaves with dark purple reverse".
Still a bright splash in the gloom is a great description.
