Snowed in at Shadowlands (photos)

Dear All,
Thank you for your messages. We finally got out yesterday after being snowed in for three days. We are forecast to have another heavy spell of snow on Friday and Saturday, but we will be in Tokyo, so who knows what we will come back to the following weekend. We are so high up virtually nothing melts. As you can see, the apple trees (know about five feet are half buried. The snow melted a little and slid partly off the roof, but not entirely and broke all the guttering. But under all this, the amazing thing is that the plants will in the main survive, and come spring all will be vibrant.

Yes picturesque, but hard to get around. Yes, the snowmen are growing up: the youngest had his birthday yesterday, but sensibly stayed inside and let daddy and his older brother freeze. Best, ptaro

Fab photos Ptaro, love your handsome snowman there, glad you have been able to get out, I prefer to admire the snow from indoors through the window. :) Glad it is not here or maybe it would be preferable to the rain we are having at the moment!!!

Snow again in Tokyo today - must be another 50cms in Hakone on top of the stuff we had last week; so won't be venturing up there again for a few weeks. Meanwhile, seed ordering has gone apace. Luckily I can get Fothergill's, Johnson's and other British seed stocks. Basically, I tend to add one month on to the suggested sow times - seems to work. I'll probably start everything off on our roof top garden in Tokyo in mid-March, then transfer to Greenhouse in Hakone, then to frames, then to outside benches, and hope to get most thing growing away by mid May. Still discovering things up in Hakone that I didn't know I had: the latest, a single deep crimson Camellia (from pruning I did a few weeks ago, stuck in a vase - and now opened).
I have been following the biblical rains in the Uk on the BBC website, and have great sympathy for those who have suffered flood damage and disruption to their lives. Best, ptarotuos

It looks lovely, so picturesque but living with it is a different picture altogether, I'm pleased you managed to get out Ptaro and lets hope your guttering is the only bit that suffers.
Its pouring down here but we are so lucky compared to others in different parts of the country and thats something to be thankful for...
My your snowpeople are growing and look so happy, lol....
