Rope for rose swag
By Pam
I am trying to buy about 8m of natural hemp rope of diameter 32mm or more. I have encountered difficulty in getting this thickness at a realistic price. Does anyone know of a good supplier or of an alternative rope that will look as good?

It's always worth checking out your local recycling centre for rope - or indeed any other garden needs. I got a lovely old terracotta urn for a fiver the other day!!!

1.Take a map
2. Run your finger from your house to the coast
3. Run your finger along the coast till you come to a docks
4. Drive to the docks, plenty of hemp rope there, new, used and discarded. The bigger the wharf capacity, the thicker the rope required to tie the ship up. Good luck

Hi Pam, I searched for "manila rope" at http://www.express.ebay.co.uk/ and found it for less than £3 a metre. Is that better than you've found? It has a £10 delivery charge or you can pick it up in person. There was a phone number too if you want to talk to the seller.
Hope that helps.
