Why my aubretia in a basket has lovely flowers, but is dry in the middle

I have an aubretia in a basket that I water every day. It has lovely flowers but it's dry in the middle, where it comes out of the earth. Any tips ?

aubretia always does this - the only way to try to revive the centre is to cut it back by half after it has flowered.It is, unfortunately, more noticeable in a container than it would be in the ground.
