Hi, I assume you're asking about Aubretia, this is grown in moderately fertile, well drained soil, and as it's a member of the Brassica family, prefers a neutral to alkaline soil, in full sun, this does not apply to all alpines however, as most prefer a poor, gritty well drained soil, Derek.

As Derek says, all alpines prefer very well-drained soil, so plenty of grit incorporated, and they like a sunny position.
