APRIL DAYS ~ brief and precious

Early April … my gardens are coming to life

…………………………………………………………….

This week, there are blustery winds …

Conker’s hair gets blown in all directions

…………………………………………………………….

Clematis Frances Rivis …

… she likes her home on the shady fence

…………………………………………………………….

Aubrieta and primulas …

I started the baby Pieris Forest Flame as a cutting

…………………………………………………………….

In the foreground, Rose Heartbeat …

… shiny new leaves have emerged

…………………………………………………………….

Dicentra spectabilis … peeping down at the primroses

…………………………………………………………….

Iberis, aubrieta, tulips and grape hyacinths …

… growing like crazy after the chilly weather !

…………………………………………………………….

Looking across the Pieris Little Heath to alpines

…………………………………………………………….

Far corner of my back garden …

… Mother Nature’s miracles …

… tiny primula self-seeded in the pavement crack

…………………………………………………………….

Doronicum Little Leo with Muscari latifolium

…………………………………………………………….

Conker thinks the new watering can is a silly design

… very unsuitable for Shetland Sheepdogs

…………………………………………………………….

… but if you are a thirsty Fox Terrier …

… the pointed shape is spot on … ;o)

…………………………………………………………….

Delightful daffodil days …

… brief and precious …

…………………………………………………………….

Wishing you a happy, healthy,

peaceful April in your gardens xxx

Terra its absolutely gorgeous as are the boys, I think Conker`s windswept look is very appealing and I guess you`ve lost that watering can, lol.
I think the rockery plants are amazing this year so I guess they prefer snowy winters.....

5 Apr, 2011

Truffle says any colour is good.. Lol...

Ann.... your aubrietas etc... are looking lovely :o) x

5 Apr, 2011

Truffle can't do the windswept look ;o)

5 Apr, 2011

Terra you have the most beautiful garden for so early in the year. Lovely photos, and I am totally in love with Conker.

Your garden looks astonishing already Terratoonie! I can't wait to see what it looks like in the height of summer!
If only mine had as much going on! sadly it's still 'just' fence-to-fence grass!

TT I grew my Daffs in pots this year, they look good and you can move them when they have gone over. What is the white Alium like plant called in pic of Conker with the can?

5 Apr, 2011

Everything in your garden is looking lovely and bright :) And the dogs are as gorgeous as ever!

5 Apr, 2011

TT, from the look of your garden you wouldn`t guess that we had just come through such a hard winter, its beautiful, and of course Conker and Truffle add the finishing touch to its charm.

5 Apr, 2011

Conker and Truffle say thanks to Jennyfer, Stroller and Yorkshire :o)

5 Apr, 2011

Beautiful Terra . . . just amazing! Conker and Truffle are gorgeous. And I'm so glad you named your blue Clem, because I have the same one on a shady fence and got a nice surprise yesterday when I saw it was in flower (I can be polite to it now that I know its name).

5 Apr, 2011

Only yesterday I was thinking of your garden, knowing you have so many spring flowering plants, glad you have put them on :))) Thank you!

5 Apr, 2011

Hi Cristina ~
Thanks.. I'm pleased you like my gardens :o)

Our new friend is hibernating till we have the opportunity to do a touch-up paint job, just as we did with Gromit last year...Lol..

Conker and Truffle have offered to come over to your house and help with your watering cans ;o) Good luck with your little plants... they soon become bigger plants..LOL.

Hi Teds ~
I hope your gravel plants do well... there are more gravel garden ideas on some of my previous blogs..

5 Apr, 2011

I never tire of seeing your amazing garden, it is a riot of beautiful colours, you have inspired me to collect some assorted colours of aubretia, but a long , long way to go to achieve anything near to your fantastic display . love the pictures of Conker and Truffle such very handsome boys;0)

5 Apr, 2011

Wow your garden is beautiful TT, lovely colours this is my favourite time of the year everything looks so fresh and green, my hubby is not happy though, the hedge is growing fast now lol!

5 Apr, 2011

Hi Skilla ... springtime is also my favourite season in the garden... and your hubby is right... hedges and everything are growing rapidly !

Hello PP ... a great colour variety in aubrieta these days isn't there ...... and fun in finding them ...

... glad you like the photos of my gardens and of Conker and Truffle :o)

5 Apr, 2011

Your garden is looking fabulous Terra, mine looks very dull in comparison! It`s great to see Conker looking so happy and well and just look at Truffle enjoying his drink of water. Perry likes to drink out of any available recepticle though he can`t get his big head in MY watering can...lol! :o)))

5 Apr, 2011

Hi Sandra ... Thanks ...

... and, yes, thankfully Conker has been looking fit and well this week ...

Truffle certainly recommends the new watering can for Perry's drinks ... nice wide area for a Labrador face to dip in ...Lol...

5 Apr, 2011

What an absolutely splendid looking garden so early in the season TT - it must be a real joy to you to be able to look out on that every day. You obviously have fun gardening.

5 Apr, 2011

Thanks, Mariek ~
Yes, I love my gardens :o)

5 Apr, 2011

5 Apr, 2011

Wow, what an amazing riot of colour you have there TT. It looks so warm and inviting! Conker has stolen my heart again....I had a hair do like that today too!!

5 Apr, 2011

Hi Karensusan ~ Thanks ...
... I'm pleased you like the colours :o)

Conker gives one shake and all his hair falls into place again .. I wish my hair were that easy to style ... Lol..

5 Apr, 2011

Erm yes, don't we all!!

5 Apr, 2011

What a fantastic & colourful garden you have, TT! :-)) I really love it! Most of the colour on my balcony is yellow & blue - as well as the green from the leaves! I had some pinks & a rather washed out yellow from my Hyacinths but they are going over very quickly now!

Your pair of "helpers" are looking very handsome! I loved that photo of Conker with windswept hair! When they have done watering your garden you might send them over to my allotment - the latest rain showers have done no good at all & I've had to make a few trips already back & forth with a couple of watering cans, so nay help from them would be greatly appreciated! LOL!

5 Apr, 2011

that's great Terra, lovely show of plants and colour, nice to see conker helping with the watering lol

5 Apr, 2011

Lovely photos TT. great colour everywhere, a real credit to you. Conker looks very dashing too.

5 Apr, 2011

Your garden is an inspiration to us all, another fantastic show TT, and who said you could borrow my watering can Ikea was it? lol a big hello to Conker.......and of course Truffle.

5 Apr, 2011

A stunning show in your lovely garden so many colours too. Terratoonie well done with that cutting of the Peries. Lol with Conker think he was having a blow dry hehe, and Truffles was clever enough to work that can to his advantage.

5 Apr, 2011

Wow what an amazing garden all that colour and so many different plants to fest your eyes on, it is absolutely beautiful and Conker is so handsome , give him a hug from me please

5 Apr, 2011

Your garden is looking STUNNING! So gorgeous, the colours all work together so beautifully, I'm lost for words, so I'll just leave you with a woofety woof to the darling duo, and a tweet for crocus!

6 Apr, 2011

Terratoonie:

So much color, I'm almost blinded! :>)

Your garden looks terrific, as always! So glad to see Conker continuing to do so well! :>)

6 Apr, 2011

6 Apr, 2011

Hi Balcony ~ Thanks :o)
Conker and Truffle are ready to come across to your allotment and help with the watering ... they have plenty of watering cans. Lol.
I guess it would be easy to introduce mauve colour into your balcony at this time of year with trailing aubrietas in pots ..

Thank you Surreylad, Bob and Dotty ~
Conker reckons the orange watering can might be better as a hat.. Lol.

Hi Sixpence ~ the original Pieris is in my back garden ... a plant I rescued from my mother's garden ... and I made the cutting just in case I lost the original shrub ...

Sue ~ Conker sends you a special hug ... :o)

Thanks Libet ~ the trio of C,T and C send greetings ;o)

Hi Delonix ~ yes, I'm lucky that Conker continues to look well... I treasure each day ...

Thank you Paul ~ I wonder if in this year's summer we'll be using lots of watering cans... I'll be checking your weather forecasts !

6 Apr, 2011

lol Thanks - the warm weather i promised is arriving :):):) - will do an updated forecast today ;)

6 Apr, 2011

6 Apr, 2011

6 Apr, 2011

Thank you Grandmage ...

6 Apr, 2011

Hello Amy... Thanks...
I feel so lucky that 2 years on from the onset of the cancer, Conker is looking so well and enjoying life...

In the garden, I've never known the spring flowers grow so rapidly .... I guess due to the freezing winter.. Is it the same speedy rate of growth in your garden ?

6 Apr, 2011

Good blog TT, the garden is just so full of colour, a "RIOT" really lovely!

6 Apr, 2011

Hi Helenium ... Glad you like the blog ..

those hills and the sea shores ....

Conker says thanks ... and he's packing his bags to come for a holiday to Pembrokeshire ;o)

6 Apr, 2011

Lovely!

7 Apr, 2011

What a joy your garden is, some lovely colours going on there, you have put a lot of effort into your gaden and the rewards are clear to see. Cest bon.

7 Apr, 2011

Loving the pics of Conker and Truffle - I nearly forgot to look at the flowers!!!

I have to agree with the earlier comment - my garden is a display full of - a couple of daffodils. I am amazed at how much colour you have at this time of year. And, very jealous.

A definate inspiration to get out there and spend a few hours or so in the garden. Whatever shape or size you may have.

8 Apr, 2011

Absolutely amazing colour for early April, Tt! Your Doronicum has so many blooms already, mine just has a few buds right now. Conker looks very handsome with his 'Gone with the wind' look! : o ))

8 Apr, 2011

Such a lovely garden Terratoonie ,so full of colour, and two lovely helper's as well :-))

8 Apr, 2011

brilliant garden and so much colour so early..truly an inspiration..well done

9 Apr, 2011

Brillant colour for this time of year. So good to see it after such a severe winter. Gives great encouragement.

9 Apr, 2011

I have been looking forward to seeing your garden this Spring and WOW. It is glorious. I think Truffle and Conker think they have arrived in Heaven. Seeing Conker this year it is hard to believe he was so ill. I wish you a happy April too.

10 Apr, 2011

Your garden's looking lovely Tt. A credit to you!!
That Dorinicum 'Little Leo'...have you had it long as I had 3 of them a few years ago but rthey disappeared after the 2nd year.I then read that they are short lived..maybe they didn't like my clay!

11 Apr, 2011

Thanks Red aly, and Merci beaucoup Julien :o)

Hi Gillspec ... your daffodils are proof that you can grow some lovely springtime flowers ... Next year, I'm sure your garden will be full of colour ... Conker and Truffle send you "woofs" ;o)

Hello Shirley ... Conker's windswept look ? ...to get that effect, he spends ages at the hair stylists ;o)

Thank you Mavis, Skips, and Rosie...
... amazing amount of growth after the icy-cold winter !

Hi Scotsgran ....
Yes, two years since Conker first got the cancer ... I'm very thankful to still have him looking so well and enjoying life ...

Thanks Paul.... This time last year, I had the larger Doronicum Leonardo in the place where you now see Little Leo. I had decided that Leonardo was too large for the place in front of the raised bed, so I moved it at that time to my front garden and put in Little Leo.

Little Leo survived the cold winter, but the larger Leonardo in the front garden has disappeared completely... so my best guesses are that they don't like being moved ... and they like a bit of protection from cold winds ...

Little Leo is still flowering well... I've taken more photos of my gardens this week and hope to make another blog soon... :o)

13 Apr, 2011

Very colourful TT....Well done :-)

13 Apr, 2011

Hi Louis.... many thanks :o)

13 Apr, 2011

Wow Tt I always think April is the best month in my garden ! but yours outdoes anything I can produce it is so vibrant and your photographs are so sharp and bright. Conker is so beautiful and looks the picture of health and long may he do so he is so cuddlsome xx

13 Apr, 2011

You have an absolutely beautiful garden. So many colors. Everything is so full and filled in, even this early in the year. Your pups look adorable too! I'm going to try cuttings from my pieris this year too. It is growing slower than usual. Just now started shooting up some red, but I think usually I have at least an inch of red this time of the year ?? Thanks for posting the photo blog, definitely enjoyed it!

14 Apr, 2011

Thanks Maggy and Laine ...

April is a wonderful month in our gardens ...

It is a good idea to try to make a second shrub by a cutting ... just in case you lose the original shrub....

Conker and Truffle send woofs and hugs to you both. xxx

14 Apr, 2011

I can see who's the boss, but Truffle's practical contribution deserves praise too.

17 Apr, 2011

Thanks Arcadio ...
Truffle tries his best... certainly not lacking in energy and enthusiasm ! ;o)

17 Apr, 2011

Missed this at the time Tt, Conker and Truffle, but your watering seems to have paid off - job well done! Lovely Spring colours there. :-))
