Is it okay to eat fruit grown under trees?

United Kingdom

I have strawberries under the canopy of an oak tree - one can imagine the number of insects above and how the strawberry plant leaves get so sticky. Will simply washing the fruit under water get rid of the residues?

Should be fine to eat, though a more efficient way of cleaning them is to leave them sitting in slightly warm water rather than straight out of the tap, for 15 minutes or so, then flush under running tap. You're eating far worse with the shop bought ones - loads of pesticides and pollution and anti fungal treatments!
