why does my pineapple lily have such an unpleasant scent?

I grow this and the scent is ok but as i dont really like lillies [i know.....] i think smaell is in the nose of the sniffer so to speak.

It's just the way they are! For a really bad smell try Dracunculus vulgaris, smells of rotting meat but an unusual flower!

I grow this plant and they do have an unpleasant smell. I have noticed that they appear to be pollinated by flys.

I've never grown it, nor sniffed one, and having looked up the cultural details, it doesn't mention fragrance, unpleasant or otherwise, at all. Perhaps someone else will have a comment to make.
