Basil, black spots?

Hi everyone with herbs, I have a beautiful basil plant which I have been "eating" off of for weeks. This a.m. I noticed some of the larger, lower leaves have black spots on them. I have removed those leaves but wonder if anyone knows what and how to get rid of if I need to? Florida Pat

Thanks! I sure didn't want to lose this plant. I am making some Pesto today for the very first time. Don't even know how to use it LOL but know that I can freeze it and do know my daughter in law loves it.

Pesto is one of our favourites too. We have it on pasta - just stirred in, or spread on a salmon steak and grilled. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Yummo!!! I love salmon. My husband is a meat and potato kind of guy but we have learned to compromise: so tonight salmon with pesto and I will make him french fries! while I will have buttered pasta. Thanks for my dinner plan. PS: my pesto looks and tastes great.

Basil plants can do this on the lower leaves - its as they age, so you eventually get to be using only the tops with the healthy leaves, by which time they're usually fairly straggly and want replacing.
