Help Globe Artichokes

I am growing Artichokes for the first time. The plants are travelling heavenwards and I think Jack (of the beanstalk) will soon be climbing them.
Is this normal? If so,where and when will there be something for us to eat!

Noseypotter is right. They dont always come out the first year. You should have had a crops coming since late May, early June on established plants.

You eat the flower bud before it got any where near opening, cut it off and boil in water, pull off scales and dip in butter. The fluffy pieces in the middle should be avoided- hence ArtiCHOKE!!!
