hi all does anyone know much about green manure i have a plot about 400 sqm which i had potatoes in this year its rather a big plot and the prices i see for a kg are very expensive , i was going to put this in over the winter to help the soil but its a serious amount of money maybe i should just cover it with farmyard manure any thoughts thanks

If you have access to well rotted farmyard manure I'd use that rather than green manure. Alternatively just leave part of your vegetable garden fallow which works in the same way as a green manure.
