This had a foot long string of yellow/orange trumpet flowers which were quite spectacular. I came by it when a piece happened to break off in my hand on a garden visit in Mull. It survived last winter in my cold greenhouse. I think its a sedum, but I'd don't the variety.

Reminds me more of one of the Sempervivums, but I don't know which one

It IS a Sempervivum, i had one like yours Romneya but with the creamy yellow trumpety flowers.

I'm afraid i lost the tickets on all 4 that i have and i don't know which type they are either ! Hopeless !!!

I now feel an idiot for puting "sedum". Deep down I knew I meant sempervivum but the wrong word came out. I hate getting old...

With me, i just can't remember a word - let alone get it wrong !

Someone recently asked a question about their "tortured hazel" - first I looked up Salix tortuosa, no, not that, irritated cos I can't remember, then I looked up Hamammelis, no, not that, and finally managed to remember Corylus contorta, the twisted hazel. I hate getting old too... and it only gets worse;-(

Ah well, just to make you all feel really old that is probably not a Sempervivum. For a start Semps have yellow, pink, red or white flowers but not as far as I am aware orange. Also they are not normally describable as 'trumpet shaped, more like flat stars.I would say it was an Echeveria myself.

Sorry all, I agree with Owdboggy. Only just found this post now. Wasn't there a similar one just recently from someone else?

Well I have got over 200 Sempervivums and I am a member of the Sedum Society, so I ought to know, but don't count on it!

I know someone in the north east that's a member of the Sedum Society....or was it the Crassulaceae in general? I will have to ask him next time I see him.
