Likes a bit of shelter from easterly winds, half sun half shade, moist but free draining, manure or organic compost enriched soil which is neutral or acid Ph. Prune only in Spring, leaving dead flowerheads on all winter for protection. Cut the heads off when growth begins in the spring, at the same removing any dead stems at the base, and trimming back dead tips to live growth.
