i bourght two hydrangea petiolaris this year, i put one in a pot and seems healthy enough with new shoots and one in border as in pic which isnt doing to well, leaves keep going brown and not looking very healthy at all

They like rich well drained soil with plenty of water in light shade.
Yours look ok to me as they are slow starters and tend to look a bit like this.
But as they are self clingers could the mesh be the problem? I just let mine grow against the wall and it clings all by itself. when I want to change its direction I put blue tac either side of the shoot to steer it where I want it to go. Good luck they are well worth the effort

thanx Drc.. funny you should mention the mesh, ive taken it off, my other plant seems strong enough without so thought this one would to, its in semi shade, does get the wind a bit, maybe i should water a bit more and hope for the best :o)

hi sanbaz, the browning is probably due to the wind. as it gets bigger then the proportion of brown leaves will decrease.
