I had great succes with my potatoes- my first ever crop! Am wondering if its too late now to sow cabbages or leeks? I have a small patch south-facing at the front of my house and two patches at the back which are in shade in the winter.Anything else I could sow now?I know its a bit late in the season but Im game!

Glad to be of help though I think most veg. gardeners will learn something from... B likes the fact it tells you how long the seeds should take to germinate. Means if you have old seed you can sow a little in a pot and if it doesn't germinate within the time stated you know to go and buy a new packet.

Many thanks indeed for this info - I was just about to ask the same question, now that I have spaces in my veggie patch.
Thanks!

You could sow spring cabbage seed, something like Advantage F1, Myatt’s Offenham, Pixie, Wintergreen. Too late for leeks for this year.
I came across a handy piece of info on the Garden Organics website - a pdf listing the different veg. and when they should be sown etc. I think it is designed for school children but is just as useful for adults.http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/growyourown/Vegetables-complete.pdf
