Seeds from Aquilegia ?

Earlier in the year I planted 2 beautiful Aquilegias. One blue/white and another red/white. As they went over I took seeds from both. I have been told that they may revert to the 'common' variety.
Any thoughts please?

Many are very promiscuous but some come true from seed. Yours sound like Mckana hybrids so you may get some like the originals and some crosses. Will be interesting to see.

I won't be able to tell you until next Spring if this is a fact, but I was told that you can keep Aquilegias true to colour if you dead head them immediately the flowers have faded.
I did this with a couple of mine that are 'special' colours and I will wait and see.

The flowers on an individual plant won't change colour whether you dead head it or not.

I have loads in my garden each spring and the colours change every year. Its quite interesting to see what comes up. You can always pull up the ones you don't like. I have some really dark blues, maroon colours, pinks and lilacs. I think the first one I got was a hybrid from the wedding nuptuals of a certain Rolling Stone who's marriage didn't last for long. Neither did the colour of the aquilegia!!
