tulip bulbs after bloom

what do I do now??? I want to plant impatients in this same bed for summer. Can I cut the stems, etc. ?

Hi Trudy... if you want your bulbs to strenghthen for next year you should only cut the flower and its stem off, and leave the leaves..they will restore the bulb and then die back. in early to mid June you can twist the whole stalk and it will pop off. Plant the impatiens around the leaves just like they were meant to be there...greenery...then when the tulip leaves dieback you can lift the stalks and your tulips will be quite happy in the soil and your impatiens will establish and bloom above their heads...lol.
