Personally I like to see mushrooms and toadstools in my garden - and as Bamboo says they will disappear within a few days anyway. This IS the time of year for them to show up en masse - and unless you have youngsters or curious animals - then I would let them be. Otherwise just destroy them..but they will return - that is nature's way....especially in old and mature gardens with lots of shady bits and trees etc. I could have mushrooms for breakfast every morning just now - IF I had the nerve to try them - but I haven't...so I'll just enjoy LOOKING at them!

i have had lots of toadstools over the years and always have shown them to the kids with the 'and you must never eat them as they will give you tummy ache' they were toadstools and what we ate were mushrooms. so the kids werent confused. and yes i know that is an artificial grouping but it works for me and mine . :o)

Likewise SBG...my grandchildren never questioned that simple logic with me...and like all kids they were very curious....and LOVED mushrooms with their bacon and eggs!! BUT - they knew the difference..."'Cos Grandma and Grandpa said so"...LOL

They might be poisonous, they might not, Futuregreen (where you been, by the way, nice to have you back). The toadstools you're seeing are just the fruiting bodies of a fungus system present in the soil - don't worry about destroying them, just pull them out and dispose of them, preferably by putting a plastic bag over the top and twisting them off. Otherwise, they'll disappear pretty quickly anyway, within a fortnight.
