They are supposed to be outside, but I find they often keel over in the winter, so best kept in a sheltered spot, but not inside. Grow fine in pots, which would make it easier to shelter it when the weather's really bad.

Oh Bamboo - I do hope not! I planted two in a bed this year!

Why aren't they hardy like other roses?

it all depends on how the rose came, is it just 4 cuttings in a pot, or did it come root wrapped in a bag?

i have 2 in large pots and they have all done well. the neighbour has them in the beds as he likes the smaller plant. so dont worry spritz. they should be fine.

I'd like to know if and how long they survive, Spritz, please - I don't know one person or client who's managed to keep one going for longer than 2 years, but I can't believe it's not possible, maybe they all just mistreat them, I don't know, never grown them myself, not a rose lover.

I've planted the grocery store patio/mini roses many times. Some do really well, some not so much. It just depends on the cutting. They are bred en masse for grocery stores and the like to sell cheaply. Sometimes you get lucky and get ones that do well. Sometimes you get ones that are weak and/or disease prone.

They were bought in pots and planted in the soil carefully, as I would do with any rose. I'll keep an eye on them, now! Should I prune them a little - or hard?

I leave mine to prune in late spring. Take heart spritz mine are 9yrs old. and the neighbour has had them in his beds for 5 yrs with now casulties.

Thanks, Sbg!

Ah, well that tells me its more to do with the gardener than it is the plants, Seaburn!

I would wait until spring to prune Spritz. Then don't prune too hard the first year. Just to shape it a bit.
