You don't say how long you've had the plant - if its new this year, I'd wait and see what colour it is when it flowers next year - you may need to do absolutely nothing. The biggest problem with hydrangeas is keeping a blue blue rather than a lilacy, faded pink, which is what happens in alkaline soil. Red should be fine.
