Heuchera as an example have great foliage colour and are evergreen.
Garden centres of any worth near you should have plants for winter tubs and baskets usually in a designated area.

I like hellebores - or what about a holly bush or maybe some winter pansies - as Fractal says, go and have a snoop around your local GC for some ideas

I find the little violas last well over winter, also you could put cyclamen in too, depends how large the troff or pots are I have just bought a checker berry, which is quite pretty with the red berries too. I have placed also winter pansies in my troffs and some violas in a pot.

Ooohh! There are so many plants! Try small Skimmias, Bellis perennis, Photinia 'Little Red Robin', Gaultheria, Euonymus, variegated Ivy, Cyclamen, Lamium, Ajuga, Heather, Polyanthus and Primroses. Do a 'mix and match' with foliage and flowering plants, and pop a ittle conifer in for height.
Have fun choosing! ;-)
