You sure, Mad? These look like eggs to me, and ladybird larvae, even the harlequin, doesn't look like this, well,I didn't think anyway. No idea what they are myself.

I would be pretty certain these are over wintering aphis. Rub off with a gloved hand as Moongrower says, pronto.

Yes in Morn MG when i can see them all as this was`nt only place on My Rose they were :(

Unless you aren't squeamish wear gloves... rubber washing up type ones are good!

Unusual to see these on an exposed stem like this. I have seen these same aphid eggs crammed into the crevices of bark on the trunks of trees (especially apple).

Aha, so they were more protected before? That would be about right then as they like to hide them away between layers of plant material too.

Looks like those alien ladybirds Jacque. I think the fear is that they will kill all our native ones, but shouldn't harm the plant in any way.
