as bluespruce says. but do be careful the leaves are very sharp so wear thick protective clothing and stout gloves.

it is infact a good idea to burn down the growth after youve replanted it as blue spruce sais in feb-march .it will mean the plant will get a natural furtiliser and can use more energy to put down new roots.it is in a lot of grasses life cycle to burn to the ground and you will be amazed how quick it starts growing new shoots . it does burn quite feroshasly and quickly so if you cant its worth cutting it back instead .

Really depends on the size of your plant to begin with. If it's a fairly young specimen then shouldn't be too much of a problem, but best left to February - March. If the plant is huge! then probably better to try and cut a slice out (not easy) and re-plant that, again next Feb -March is best
