Hiya lovely people, I'm really fed up about foxes living under my shed! I knew last year that there was a fox under there so we put breeze blocks around it (when we saw it go out) and stuck some plants in them and put spiky cuttings and rolled up wire fencing around the back and sides where it's in a corner against a wall and garage. Now my two little dogs have been going mad recently when they go out there so I suspected something was under there again when my neighbour popped his head over the fence and told me that he saw a fox and two cubs! Not happy! What can I do? I'm worried that the mum might attack and bite to protect her babies! Do you think the RSPCA would get them away for me? Thanks for any advice you can give me xx

That's a real problem franny, and although I can't help you with info, I think the RSPCA only relocate animals if there is a definite reason [I know! there is of course, but don't know how they view it.] A phone call would tell you the answer and then you can let other members know.Urban foxes are a nuisance and sometimes a danger. let us know how you get on?

Hi Franny ...
that is a problem ...
I would certainly try to keep the dogs away from that area till you have sorted the problem ... they might get bitten or catch diseases ...

Good luck ...

I hope you get something sorted Franny! The dogs will be attracted to the scent. They love rolling in it and it's not pleasant!!

HI folks,
Im going to really open a can of worms here,
But just think this fox is a creature just like us, she's got young cubs to think about and we've heard on the news about a fox getting into a babies cot,

But if your going to get the fox away from your shed "fine"
But not by bricking the entrance up,
seek the correct help by people who do this for a living and at least give the animal a chance,
If you'd managed to stop me fox by doing what you did ie the bricking up! the cubs would have starved to death and then you'd be asking "How do i get rid of a smell under my shed.
First port of call the RSPCA. Let then know the problem and then if they cant come out and do anything ? Ask them for guidence and if they know of any organization who can help.
I myself would'nt want to kill any animal unless it was causing serious danger to my self or wife,
Good luck and i really do hope this problem finds a way to be sorted.

then there is always 'pest/vermin' control at the local council to seek guidance from. there response may be to cull rather then rehome.

Thanks everyone, well I phoned my local authority pest control and they told me that they don't deal with foxes and gave me a number to call an organisation called the fox project. I called them and had an automated message (a very long one) giving advice on what to do to deter them in the first place and nothing on how to get rid, they also gave about 8 other numbers to call for varying advice. I googled the problem and lots of different suggestions and advice was there and the thing I decided to do was one that I could do immediately and that was to put a radio on in the shed because they wouldn't like that. Well the mum came out even before I got to my window to look out and she was looking all around, went and put her nose to the shed door, and was looking unsettled. The site that suggested this also said that foxes usually have up to three separate choices to 'live' so I'm hoping that she'll get fed up with the noise and go away. When she does (with her babies) I'll get the corner sides cemented up. We'll see! I know a lot of people would say let them be but I don't like the thought of them being so close to my two small Bichon Frise's and my 3 foster children. I'll keep you updated xx

Forgot to say that the RSPCA would only come out if they were sick or injured.

As foxes are vermin, you would be quite within your rights , if you hold a firearms licence, to shoot them, Derek.

Franny, try to sprinkle some human 'pee' around the area and they might go as they think that another 'animal' is around!! We do this when foxes decide to 'poo' on our deck and it works well.

I couldn't do that Derek :0( ...

Grandmage I read this tip somewhere, I haven't seen her for a couple of days but thanks this is something I would try next.
