I have an ceanothus which has been growing quite straggly. It is getting ready to flower. Do you think if I cut it back it will recover? If so how and when should I prune it?
Thanks

Ceanothus lose their vigour as older plants, you may like to try taking cuttings (July) to grow on to use as replacement plants.
Trim the new plants immediately after flowering to maintain their bushiness and the shape you want.

Wait till its finished flowering and immediately afterwards, cut back and reshape.
