We recently moved into a house that had a lawn full of moss. Don't mind moss but we removed two v large conifers at the end of last year. As a result a lot of the moss has gone brown and black. How is the best way to clear this up ? Do i have to leave it until autumn or what can I do now. I've had enough of walking dead moss through the house. I'm thinking of hiring a lawn rake to get out as much as poss now, and scarifying in autumn? Thatch is about 5cm thick throughout lawn. If I weed and feed there may not be much lawn left (lots of weeds present too) and I'm worried about there just being a v large muddy lawn left. Any advice gratefully received. (I have two young children, so still needs to be a useable lawn) Thanks in advance

Why not start raking now with a grass rake. If for nothing else to reduce the amount of moss that is there at the moment.
You may find that you may never be completely rid of the moss as conditions on your lawn shade/drainage is the cause.
Has moving the conifers created more light? That may be the cause of the moss turning black or brown.
I hope others better experienced in lawn care can have a more comprehensive answer for you.
