Hello, I am an Aussie girl now living in Surrey and was wondering if I am able to grow "Brisbane Lily" here?

Do you know its Latin name Aussie girl? That would help us to let you know what conditions it prefers.

Proiphys cunninghamii is what I know as Brisbane Lily. I doubt that one could grow it anywhere in Britain without a heated greenhouse.

There are similar lilies that are hardy here though

Thank you so much for responding. I wanted to have it to remind me of home but I guess I will have to see what else I can grow instead! Many thanks once again for taking the time to answer my question.

Callistemon (bottlebrush)? In a sheltered sunny spot, should be fine. Cordyline australis, similarly placed, though best planted in Spring, not now. Google the names for pics...

Thank you Bamboo, that's great I will definitely get a bottlebrush then! Best wishes!

Callistemon salignus is the hardiest, but C. 'Splendens' is probably the most attractive (well, in my book). Best planted in Spring rather than Autumn though..

Thanks for the tip Bamboo. Ideally I would like a white bottlebrush - I don't suppose you know of one that would be suitable? :)

I'm not even sure there is one, certainly never seen one. Do they have them in Australia?

Yes we have white bottlebrushes but I have no idea what the proper name is! :)

Callistemon pallidus has white flowers, never seen it in the uk, but Google it for suppliers here, if there are any. Callistemon salignus, the variety I mentioned earlier, has pale yellow flowers and is available here.

Bamboo thank you so much, you're extremely helpful! If I manage to get one I will let you know!

Well, this is confusing. Burncoose are offering it on their list, but its got lemon coloured flowers rather than white, so be careful about what you're ordering if you do order. Second, its only half hardy, so that means it may not survive a winter, and particularly not a bad one. Very sheltered spot, out of cold winds, in sun, with soil that doesn't dry out regularly and you might get away with it.

How do I say thanks?
