Yes, it is. We used to find these in the fields near where I grew up, occasionally. Fascinating thing. Just don't eat it!

If you want your five minutes of fame, your local newspaper will probably be happy to write a piece about 'killer plant from South America' and make out that it is very rare.
It isn't.
The people who die because of it are the ones who try and use its hallucinogenic properties not those who have it growing in the garden.

I agree, it is a Datura-Stramonium plant. It usually has a large protruding trumpet like flower, often white. It belongs to the Solanaceae family, usually found in south America and Mexico. Has been smoked in the past as a hallucinogenic drug!! so don't burn it!!!!

Looks like a datura to me...highly poisonous but spectacular and has a beautiful evening scent
