Sedum disaster!
Help! I've just been outside and found one of my biggest and best sedums keeled right over. The individual stems have been chewed right off and the pot is full of ghastly vine weevil grubs. I remember thinking this plant wasn't doing too well at the end of the summer! Please can you tell me how to save something fromthe stems. I think they've been chewed off for a while. One of them has a little rosette of leaves near the base. The others are bare.
Thank you.

What a coincidence ...
I'd just been googling 'plant care' for sedum erythrostictum .. and it said beware of vine weevils...
Thanks, Owdboggy, for the info about Provado ..
I hadn't realised it could not be used on some types of plant.
Added to GoYpedia .. sedums and houseleeks ...

Dont they drive you crazy the grubs !!
I would wash off all the soil and once cleaned plant up in fresh compost and keep frost free what you have left and see what happens , I didnt know that about NOT using on sedums interesting

Thanks Owdboggy, it is either sedum Munstead or sedum Matronalis--this one has red stems if that's any help. The other one has pale flowers but seems more attractive to insects.
The stems are about a foot long with the dead flowerhead attached. Should I just cut off top and bottom and put them in, or should I shorten them further please?

It certainly is a coincidence Terra, and thanks Gnarly, I will put them on the windowsill in the enclosed back porch (old Marley leanto!). Although unheated, most plants survive in there.

Not jumping in sorry, I would cut into 6 inch pieces keeping the right way up (you will have more than you started with) and pot up you will be surprised with all the babies along all the growth in the spring , just as well we havnt had a bad frost to make them go all mushy

Nearly all the insecticides are lethal to Crassulaceae. They go black.
The rupestris types like Matrionalis are dead easy to root as GG says.
Er, I hesitate to say it but I find them a real seed weed here, spend as much time digging them out as any other weed.

Thanks Gg, I'll cut some of them up then.
Oh dear Owdboggy! Well, I've had the plant 3 years in a pot and haven't seen any 'seedweeds' so far, so maybe I'll get away with it!
Thank you all for your help. I'll put them in , some long, some short and see what happens. If I get too many there is always the hospice shop!

What Sedum is it? The majority will root very easily even from the bare stems. The one which will not are the Rhodiola types and the rarest in cultivation .S. torulosum.
Try putting the pieces in well drained compost and they may well root.
Someone will come on and suggest using Provado to prevent future attacks. Don't. It kills sedums and sempervivums.
