I have started growing potaotes this year. It is my first time. The haulm has become very limp and floppy. Is this normal? Also when do you know a crop is ready as the potatoes are underground?

It's normally when there are lots of flowers on them. What the 'guru Alan' advises is to scratch away the soil at the side of one of your plants and see what you find - if there are spuds there, Bingo! They are ready! Or. of course, if they are too small, you just cover them up and wait awhile.
