Hi, I have just had a request pop up on here, to complete a survey giving our opinions on the site, I clicked on the square, and was taken to some firm who apparently undertake these surveys, however there was no introduction to say for whom they wanted to do the survey, just straight on with questions, first 1 was where are you, that was when I became suspicious and closed it down, has anyone-else had this request? Derek.

I haven't received a request of this nature,Derek..it sounds a bit suspicious to me..you are right to ignore it..is it one you feel you should flag?

Good idea, Derek, to shut down that request ..
On the internet I never click on any links which look dodgy.

Keeps happening to me Derek. I presume you mean the one where its starts off " congratulations, you have been selected etc...... ".
I just shut it down on the tab bar, but it does reappear from time to time on other sites as well. Not sure how to disable it.

Hi, thank you for your replies, I became suspicious when it didn't say they were doing the survey on behalf of GoY, genuine surveys usually tell you they have been commissioned by someone to do a survey on their behalf.
Littlelegs, no this was a request to take part in a survey, although I get the "congratulations" one as well, I just never click on anything like that, if you haven't entered anything, you can't possibly win it, Derek.

I do get that congratulations one but always wary so have never clicked on it, last night I was looking through one of the garden suppliers at seeds and suchlike and had to come off the pages as what you have just described was appearing in front of the pages and stopping me, its a well known supplier and one I have used in the past without any such problems ........

Derek I do not understand how these things work but the supplier I was browsing is the advert appearing to the side of this question, whether that is anything to do with it obviously I cannot help with but others may have the answer......

Hi, Lincslass, it sounds as though you had the same thing as me, it was right in the middle of the page and I just assumed, {as no doubt I was supposed to do }, that it was a genuine request from GoY to take part in the survey, after I closed it and returned to where I was, it didn't return, { luckily}, Derek.

Derek this is a way to hack into your computerā€¦ so long as you never clicked on the link you will be fine. Far worse in s way if they arrive via email and you click on the link unthinkingly.

Hi, thanks Mg, I thought it might be something like that, won't fall for that one again, Derek.

Yes thats it, there was no little x in the corner either so I had to exit completely to get rid of it.

Sounds like you've loaded a program that has what they call Adware, built into it Derek.

Adware, or advertising-supported software, is any software package which automatically renders advertisements in order to generate revenue for its author.

You can get rid of Adware by installing a FREE program called Ad-Aware by Lavasoft. Just Google Lavasoft.
