Any ideas what to plant up my new arch ? I have just bought a new metal arch which i plan to put around my front door - I am a novice gardener and have been scouring websites - i thought that a 'freckles' clematis would be nice as it is evergreen and has winter to spring flowers but need something for the summer months - i was thinking sweet peas - would this work ? Thanks for any help and advice - its greatly appreciated - Annie

Thats a good idea - the clematis could be the 'evergreen' element and if i got a scented one that would be nice to walk through . Thanks again - I will keep you posted !!

Welome to Goy. I was thinking of a nice rose to you can thornless ones now. Sweetpeas wont reach over the arch

A rose would accompany the clematis well, they're good partners, it wouldn't be evergreen but still an idea to think about.
There are shrubs, like Freemontadendron and Garrya, which can apparently be trained over structures aswell.
